Language Arts for Younger Children and Credits for High School

The following is for information purposes only. It is not necessarily the opinion of Sonlight. It is ideas that I have formed myself after using Sonlight for several years. The high school credit information is also just a guide to help you think about how these items could fit a high school program. You would need to check with your own state or reporting agency to make final determinations as to the credit you could receive. It is also a good idea to check with some of the colleges your child is considering to find out if they have any specific requirements


Language Arts Chart for the Younger Years

You can use any of the following LA's for any Core PreK-2 to best meet your child's learning needs.

LA K - Sounds, Structure - Learning letter sounds and blending of 3 letter short vowel words. This level has no readers except little readers made with the program.

LA 1 - Beginning to Read - Readers are listed under Core 1 as Regular Readers.

LA 2 - Easy Readers - Readers are listed under Core 2 Regular Readers

LA 2 Advanced - Chapter Books - Readers are listed under Core 2 Advanced Readers

To clarify. The Core 2 Advanced readers are completely different from the Core 3 readers. Although they are the same general reading level. Also, the Core 3 Advanced readers are not a different set of books they are just additional books. The reading schedule is just paced faster for those who read alot. You could also purchase the advanced set, then use a regular reading pace and substitute the extra books for books your children don't like.

At a high school level you can feel free to use any of the Sonlight Cores from Core 7 up.

American History in Depth.
American History - 1 credit
Bible - 1/2 - 1 credit
Composition - 1/2 - 1 credit
American Lit - 1 credit

History of God's Kingdom (we put World History on transcript).
World History - 1 credit
Bible 1/2 - 1 credit
World Lit - 1/2 credit
American Lit - 1/2 credit
Composition - 1/2 - 1 credit

20th Century World History
Modern World History - 1 credit
Bible - 1/2 - 1 credit
Composition 1/2 - 1 credit
Modern Literature - 1 credit

Civics/American Government
Honors Government - 1 credit
Bible 1/2 - 1 credit
Composition 1/2 - 1 credit
American Classical Literature - 1 credit

When we did this level we added the Richard Mayberry series of books and also gave a credit for Economics as well.

Survey of British Literature
British Lit - 1 credit (Honors)
Composition - 1/2 - 1 credit
